Our View: Don't rush to demolish Mayowood

“Demolition by neglect” is a legal term, but there’s a more general meaning as well, as in: If the historic Biermann House on the grounds of the Mayowood estate is demolished, it would be a terrible case of demolition by neglect.

The house, also known as the Mayowood “gatehouse,” is the oldest structure on the picturesque, century-old estate and one of the oldest houses in Olmsted County. But county board members talked last week about preparing it for demolition, since no private redevelopment plans have moved forward.
