HARMONY — An idea 13 years in the making is coming to fruition.

A May 29 groundbreaking in a vacant lot at 40 First Ave. NW was the latest step forward for Harmony Spirits, a micro-distillery owned by area residents Jim Simpson, Andy Craig and Larry Tammel. The business will produce spirits including vodka, rum, gin and whiskey.

The groundbreaking marks the latest step in a process that began all the way back in 2005, when the three would frequently visit breweries and distilleries after work and on the weekends. Simpson says that after one ...
