Rick Utley calls it a “slippery” time.

It’s the period between when an alcoholic decides to seek help and when a recovery program has an opening.

He said he experienced it when he sought help years ago and has seen countless others try to hold on amid struggles with addiction to drugs or alcohol.

“There has to be some place for people when they are at that point,” he said. “At that point in time, they have short attention spans.”
