Idol winner helps fair shed its stodgy reputation

When it comes to big-name performers, the Olmsted County Fair has gone from idle to Idol.

American Idol season 10 winner and nationally known country music artist Scotty McCreery performed Wednesday night at the fair, bucking (at least temporarily) a long-standing narrative that Rochester’s musical acts tend to be “underwhelming.”

To that, fair board member Brandon Helgeson says that McCreery, as well as acts like Parmalee and Skillet, serve as a bit of vindication.
