No injuries, but big loss in rural home fire

HAVERHILL TOWNSHIP — Four occupants at a Haverhill Township home that caught fire this morning were able to escape the home without injuries.

That was the good news from the fire scene, which drew emergency crews from multiple jurisdictions, who spent much of the morning combating the blaze. The fire, in the 5000 block of 48th Street Northeast, was reported shortly before 7 a.m.

The bad news is the extensive damage to the home. “The house is torched, it’s unlivable,” said Fire Chief Craig Ziebell, of the Elgin Fire Department, which responded to the fire. ...
