Starwatch: Taurus the bull, defender of the Seven

By Mike Lynch

In my view, the best looking group of constellations, what I call Orion’s Gang, has taken full control of southeastern portion of the early evening sky. You can’t help but notice that congestion of bright stars. Nowhere else in the night sky at any other time of the year will you witness such a congested field of bright stars!

The constellation Orion the hunter is the head of the gang with its three bright stars lined up in a perfect row that depict his belt. Ever since I was a kid I thought of Orion more as an hourglass than a hunter, but that’s just me. What do you think?
