The reasons you might have to skip the Rochester Downtown Farmers Market’s Winter Markets — you think they’re not as good as in summer, or the barns are too cold, or there won’t be as many vendors or any fresh produce — are all wrong.

I know, because the Saturday before Christmas I ventured over to the Olmsted County Fairgrounds, somewhat reluctantly because of weather, but I wanted to check things out. What I found was a true happening. The excitement and energy in the two buildings was on par with anything you see at the summer market.
