“A strong storm system will bring snow, a wintry mix, rain and strong winds to the region into Friday,” the NWS reports, adding that along the Interstate 90 corridor “a wintry mix will occur with some potential for icing, especially on elevated surfaces.”

Farther south, mainly rain should occur and this could be heavy at times. Strong east winds with gusts up to 45 mph will occur tonight into Thursday morning. the NWS reports.

In the Rochester area, snow and ice today will give way to about one-tenth of an inch of ice tonight and wind gusts up to 41 mph, with more of the same Thursday, with winds reaching up to 46 mph.

Starting late today and through Thursday, the NWS estimates a 100 percent chance of rain and snow. The chance of rain and/or snow will tail off Friday, with just a 40 percent chance of precipitation. Daily highs will hover near 40 degrees with nightly lows falling to near freezing.
