Our view: Be a hero, register as organ donor 

Minnesotans in general, and residents of Olmsted County in particular, have high rates of registration as organ and tissue donors. In the state, 69 percent of Minnesotans are registered as organ donors, while in Olmsted County, the rate of registration is 72 percent.

Those are impressive numbers, considering that nationwide, only 58 percent of Americans are registered as organ donors — despite surveys showing that 95 percent of Americans approve of organ donation, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Obviously, there is a gap that, if it could be filled, would help save and improve lives. But as a report in ...
